Fantomas – Suspended Animation (12.14.05)

Posted on July 28, 2008

No doubt about it, Fantômas is a hard sell. They play metal that’s more influenced by early Boredoms than anything else and, in turn, their music tends to be annoying, abrasive and directionless—in the best possible way, of course. Suspended Animation is a return to the scatological switchback style of their debut, with songs that make no sense no matter how many listens you give them. Gonzo videogame and cartoon samples offer suggestive reference points for those desperately seeking familiar turf, but most will feel as lost as a catatonic toddler who’s been sucked into Smurf Village on a sugar high.
